Calcium hydroxide is an inorganic compound with a chemical formula of Ca(OH)2 and a molecular weight of 74.10. Commonly known as slaked lime or slaked lime. It is a white hexagonal powder crystal. Density 2.243g/cm3. It loses water to CaO at 580℃.
After calcium hydroxide is added to water, it is divided into two layers: the upper aqueous solution is called clear lime water, and the lower suspension is called lime milk or lime slurry. The clear lime water in the upper layer can be used to detect carbon dioxide, and the turbid liquid in the lower layer, milk of lime, is a building material. Calcium hydroxide is a strong alkali with bactericidal and antiseptic capabilities, and is corrosive to skin and fabrics. Calcium hydroxide is used to make bleaching powder, hard water softeners, disinfectant pesticides, hair removers for tanning, sugar refining and building materials, etc.

1. Can be used as raw material for the production of calcium carbonate.
2. Calcium hydroxide is alkaline, so it can be used to reduce the acidity of the soil, thereby improving the soil structure. Bordeaux mixture in pesticides is prepared by using milk of lime (calcium hydroxide dissolved in water) and copper sulfate aqueous solution in a certain proportion. In winter, trees are protected from insects by applying 80 centimeters of lime mortar above the roots of the trees.
3. High-quality products are mainly used in the production of epichlorohydrin and propylene oxide.
4. It can be used in rubber and petrochemical additives. For example, it can be added to lubricating oil in the petroleum industry to prevent coking, sludge deposition, neutralization and anti-corrosion.
5. Used to prepare bleaching powder, bleaching powder essence, disinfectants, antacids, astringents, hard water softeners, soil acid preventive agents, hair removal agents, buffers, neutralizers, curing agents, etc.
6. Calcium hydroxide and carbon dioxide in the air will also react to form calcium carbonate that is insoluble in water. In the sugar industry, calcium hydroxide is first used to neutralize the acid in the syrup, and then carbon dioxide is introduced to react with the remaining calcium hydroxide to form a precipitate that is filtered out to reduce the sour taste of the sugar.

Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. The best humidity in the warehouse should not be greater than 85%. The packaging must be well sealed to avoid moisture absorption. They should be stored separately from flammable (combustible) materials, acids, etc., and mixed storage should be avoided. The storage area should have appropriate information in place to contain spills.
