Aluminum Sulfate Sigma

Aluminum sulfate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Al2(SO4)3 and a molecular weight of 342.15. It is a white crystalline powder.

In the papermaking industry, it can be used as a precipitant for rosin gum, wax emulsion and other rubber materials, as a flocculant in water treatment, as an internal agent for foam fire extinguishers, as a raw material for manufacturing alum and aluminum white, as a decolorizer for petroleum, as a deodorant, and as a pharmaceutical agent. Raw materials, etc. can also be used to produce artificial gemstones and high-grade ammonium alum.

1. Used as paper sizing agent in the papermaking industry to enhance the water resistance and anti-seepage properties of paper;

2. After being dissolved in water, it can aggregate the fine particles and natural colloidal particles in the water into large flocs, which can be removed from the water, so it is used as a coagulant for water supply and wastewater;

3. Used as a turbid water purifier, precipitant, color-fixing agent, filler, etc. Used as an antiperspirant cosmetic raw material (astringent) in cosmetics;

4. In the fire protection industry, it is used as a foam fire extinguishing agent with baking soda and foaming agent;

5. Analytical reagents, mordants, tanning agents, oil decolorants, wood preservatives;

6. Stabilizer for albumin pasteurization (including liquid or frozen whole eggs, egg whites or egg yolks);

7. Can be used as raw material for the manufacture of artificial gemstones and high-grade ammonium alum, and other aluminates;

8. In the fuel industry, it is used as a precipitating agent in the production of chrome yellow and lake dyes, and at the same time plays the role of fixation and filler.

9. Used as an effective cross-linking agent for animal glue and can increase the viscosity of animal glue. It is also used as a curing agent for urea-formaldehyde adhesives. The 20% aqueous solution cures faster.

Operators must undergo special training, conduct closed operations, use local exhaust, and wear protective equipment, such as self-priming filter dust masks, chemical safety glasses, anti-toxic substance penetration overalls, and rubber gloves.

Aluminum sulfate should avoid contact with oxidants. When handling, it should be loaded and unloaded with care to prevent damage to the packaging, and emergency leakage treatment equipment should be equipped.

If aluminum sulfate powder accidentally gets into your eyes, you should immediately lift your eyelids, rinse with running water or saline, and then seek medical advice. If you accidentally inhale aluminum sulfate powder, you should leave the scene immediately and go to a place with fresh air. If the situation is serious, you should give oxygen and seek medical treatment.

After skin contact, contaminated clothing should be removed and rinsed with running water.

Wastewater containing aluminum sulfate cannot be discharged directly and should be strictly treated first to prevent environmental pollution.

Aluminum sulfate should be stored in a cool, ventilated warehouse, away from fire and heat sources, and avoid contact with organic matter, reducing agents and oxidizing agents.
