Application scenarios

Formic acid, with the chemical formula HCOOH or CH2O2, is a weak electrolyte and the simplest fatty acid. It is a colorless, transparent, fuming liquid with a strong pungent odor. Contact with the skin will cause blistering. It is usually found in the secretions of bees, certain ants, and caterpillars, so it is also called "formic acid". It is miscible with most organic solvents such as water, ethanol, ether, and glycerol (propylene glycol) in any proportion. It has a certain solubility in hydrocarbon substances (partial miscibility) and is widely used in organic synthesis, medicine, rubber, disinfection, and antiseptic fields.

As of 2012, my country's economy has grown rapidly, the level of industrialization has continued to improve, and the domestic production and consumption of formic acid have continued to increase. According to statistics, more than 80% of the formic acid produced in my country is exported to Southeast Asia and Japan, about 12% goes to Europe, and the rest is sold to Oceania. The main uses of formic acid in China include medicine, chemicals, pesticides and rubber, among which medical uses account for half of the total consumption.
For the international market, the demand trend of formic acid is steadily increasing. The largest application of formic acid is leather, mainly used to make leather tanning softeners, deashing agents, neutralizers, and mildew prevention, etc. The second largest application is agriculture, where it is used to preserve green fodder and grains.

Formic acid is one of the basic organic chemical raw materials and is widely used in industries such as pesticides, leather, dyes, medicines and rubber. Formic acid can be directly used in fabric processing, tanning, textile printing and dyeing, and storage of green fodder. It can also be used as a metal surface treatment agent, rubber additive and industrial solvent. In organic synthesis, it is used to synthesize various formate esters, acridine dyes and formamide series pharmaceutical intermediates. The specific classification is as follows:
1. Pharmaceutical industry: It can be used for the processing of caffeine, analgin, aminopyrine, aminophylline, theobromine borneol, vitamin B1, metronidazole, and mebendazole.
2. Pesticide industry: It can be used for the processing of triadimefon, triadimefon, tricyclazole, triaminoazole, triazophos, paclobutrazol, uniclobutrazol, dicofol, and trichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane.
3. Chemical industry: It is used to manufacture various formates, formamide, pentaerythritol, neopentyl glycol, epoxy soybean oil, epoxy soybean oil octyl ester, pivaloyl chloride, paint strippers, and phenolic resin raw materials.
4. Leather industry: used as leather tanning agent, deliming agent and neutralizing agent.
5. Rubber industry: used for processing natural rubber coagulant and manufacturing rubber antioxidant.

Leakage treatment
Quickly evacuate personnel from the leaked contaminated area to a safe area, isolate it, and strictly restrict entry and exit. Cut off the source of fire. It is recommended that emergency response personnel wear self-contained positive pressure respirators and acid-proof and alkali-resistant work clothes. Do not directly contact the leak. Cut off the source of the leak as much as possible. Prevent it from flowing into restricted spaces such as sewers and flood drainage ditches.
Small leaks: adsorb or absorb with sand or other non-combustible materials. You can also sprinkle soda ash on the ground, then rinse it with a large amount of water, and dilute the washing water and put it into the wastewater system.
Large leaks: Build a dike or dig a pit to contain it. Cover it with foam to reduce steam disasters. Spray water to cool and dilute the steam. Transfer it to a tank truck or a special collector with a pump, and recycle or transport it to a waste treatment site for disposal
