Magnesium chloride is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula MgCl2 and a molecular weight of 95.211. It is a colorless flaky crystal, slightly soluble in acetone, and soluble in water, ethanol, methanol, and pyridine. It deliquesces and emits smoke in moist air, and sublimates when it is white hot in a hydrogen gas stream. Magnesium chloride is mainly distributed in the salt lake of Qaidam in China.
